Description
Description

The desulfurization tower is a tower-type equipment for desulfurization treatment of industrial waste gas. The desulfurization tower was originally the most widely used granite masonry. It uses the principle of water film desulfurization and dust removal, also known as granite water film desulfurization and dust collector, or granite water film desulfurization and dust collector.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO), according to the sulphur limit regulations for ships, requires member states to implement MEPC.259(68) from January 1, 2020, that is, the emission of sulfur oxides in the flue gas of ships must be less than 0.5%. In response to the new IMO regulations, ships basically meet emission standards in the following three ways:

1. Adding and using low-sulfur oil
2. Adopt desulfurization tower system (EGC system)
3. Use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) etc. as alternative energy

For the third method, it is generally only applicable to newly built ships or operating ships with reserved refit positions. At present, the ship industry generally adopts the first and second methods to deal with the new regulations.

Open desulfurization towers use seawater to clean the flue gas. Seawater is generally weakly alkaline. In the desulfurization tower, the seawater is fully mixed with the flue gas by spraying, and the sulfur oxides are neutralized in the seawater, and the cleaned flue gas is discharged into the atmosphere. Open desulfurization tower generally includes: seawater supply system, desulfurization tower, control unit, washing water monitoring unit, flue gas monitoring device, etc.
Open desulfurization tower system control is very simple, relatively low cost, and easy to retrofit. It mainly uses the alkalinity of seawater to achieve the purpose of sulfur removal.

The closed scrubber uses fresh water added with chemicals as the scrubbing water, generally using NaOH, Mg(OH)2, NaCO3, etc. Then, the washing water mixed with lye is used as the flue gas washing medium, and the washing water is recycled in the closed system and usually stored in the system cabinet. When the closed system starts, the circulating pump draws the washing water from the system cabinet, and after cooling by the heat exchanger, it is transported to the washing tower. During this process, seawater will be used as make-up water and cooling water. The water treatment system will continuously extract the long-used washing water from the system cabinet for treatment, so that the water quality meets the standard. The lye will be used as the main reaction medium and will be continuously added to the washing water to participate in the desulfurization reaction.

Mixing open and closed desulfurization towers can be flexibly switched, inheriting the advantages of open and closed. But with the control, the composition is more complex and the cost is higher. Generally larger than the closed market and widely used.
